Knights Shadow by Sebastian de Castell

Knight's Shadow (Greatcoats, #2)Knight’s Shadow by Sebastien de Castell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Stunning. The best book I’ve read so far this year.
Traitors Blade was a brilliant debut last year and such a well constructed story and world. Knights Shadow doesn’t just build on it but move to a different level all together.
The writing is never less than brilliant. The plot twists and turns, shocks and decieves , has a relentless place and leaves you guessing until the end ( and what a finish it is).
But the icing on the cake are the brilliant characters. Falcio is a brilliant lead man. A proper hero who never realises it. His associates, Kest and Brasti are great characters, each outstanding in their own way. The other characters were all well done, Darriana being quite the mystery and the reintroduction of Ugh was done so well. In a short passage I fell almost as in lofe with him as I did Dobby from HP.
Definitely recommend this series to anyone and everyone.
If there was a 6th star I’d give it.
On a side note at one point I wanted to be a Greatcoat but by the end I think I wanted to be a bastard instead .
And a wonderful post credit easter egg about Ugh ( always worth staying to the very end :-))

About Paul Walsh

I'm a big fan of fantasy and scifi, which would make up most of my reading but will branch out often enough. Favourite authors vary over time but generally include Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Conn Iggulden, Robert Harris, Karen Maitlan, Kate Mosse, Anne Rice, Philip K Dick, Ray Bradbury. John Scalzi, Mark Lawrence, Pat Rothfuss and a host of others. I'm not the harshest reviewer but will note down a few words on all books I read.

  1. Agreed, an all around great book . . . one of my top 3 favorites this year.

I honestly didn’t know of Sebastian could improve on Traitors Blade but he really did. I really am looking forward to the next addition to the series
