The Last Colony by John Scalzi. Series keeps getting better

The Last Colony (Old Man's War #3)The Last Colony by John Scalzi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great continuation of the Old Mans War series. Scalzi manages to keep the whole idea fresh by writing a completely different story to the previous two installments.
Perry and Sagan alongside their adopted daughter are now left in charge of a new colony pretty much everyone including the CU wants destroyed.
The planning, the sparks of wit, the twists and the brilliant ending all made this a great read.
There are really no bad guys in these stories, its all groups with agendas, and this is what marks it out. Its too easy to make the human military bad in a scifi and its been done. Here its just one of the players making crappy decisions trying to keep an edge. Scalzi really does bring an added element to it all and this series just keeps getting better.

About Paul Walsh

I'm a big fan of fantasy and scifi, which would make up most of my reading but will branch out often enough. Favourite authors vary over time but generally include Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Conn Iggulden, Robert Harris, Karen Maitlan, Kate Mosse, Anne Rice, Philip K Dick, Ray Bradbury. John Scalzi, Mark Lawrence, Pat Rothfuss and a host of others. I'm not the harshest reviewer but will note down a few words on all books I read.
